JDF Specification in HTML
Originally, the JDF Specification was only published as a PDF document. More recently, it has also been made available in HTML. We have tried several conversion methods, but unfortunately could not find a perfect solution. Therefore, the specification is made available in two versions now, each one having advantages and disadvantages:
- Version 1 is created by saving Framemaker documents as HTML files:

- Version 2 is created by using Adobe's RoboHelp to generate an HTML book:

Pros and Cons of Version 2 |
| Pros: |
Cons: |
- Images are full size and thus more readable. In the previous version, the width and height of each image was 50% of the original size.
- Blanks are no longer added between style changes, e.g. in examples and XPaths.
- There is a new panel for the TofC where sections expand and contract. In the previous version there was a separate file for the TofC where each line was a hot link.
- More accurately reproduces Framemaker document's metrics (e.g. table column widths) than the previous version by adding a huge number of inline styles -- part of the reason for increased file size.
- Table captions do not have a section count for tables that are multiple pages in the PDF version, e.g. "(Section 5 of 5)"
|
- Many callouts echo part of their colored border in the image. Only one image had this problem in the previous version and it was easily fixed. These images could be fixed with more work
- Many (but not all) cross references to items outside of the document are not hot in this version, but were hot in the previous version. This is presumably a bug.
- Appendices for Lists of Tables, Figures and Examples do not have hot links. They were hot in the previous version. The Framemaker "List of ..." files seem not to be supported.
- The files are twice as large as the previous version because of numerous inline styles, both for table metrics as well as to reiterate styles already defined in the referenced CSS file.
